Xiaomi has been following a numbered approach for some time, naming the new Mi Band models, and this tradition will continue this year.

The next fitness tracker will be released as Mi Band 7 in China, and in other regions, such as Europe and India, will be called Mi Smart Band 7. Xiaomi has confirmed that the wearable device will be officially introduced on May 24, 2022 in the domestic market. The global launch date has not yet been announced.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi does not officially sell the Mi Band line in the United States, but interested buyers can always import international models from third-party websites.

Design and display

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi Band 7 will have a 1.62-inch AMOLED display. This is 25% larger than the 1.56-inch Mi Band 6.

However, it still has the same tablet design as last year. AND wild leak Earlier it was assumed that Xiaomi is preparing a Mi Band model with a 360-degree flexible display. The leader shared an image of what they said was a slide from Xiaomi’s internal presentation. In it, Xiaomi apparently referred to a device called the Mi Band X with a magnetic buckle and a thin and light design. Unfortunately! We may have to wait longer for Xiaomi to launch such a device.

The company has already published an image of the future group (see above), and, as always, it is expected to be presented in several colors.

Characteristics and features

Xiaomi’s Mi Band series does a great job of basic fitness and health tracking, and it looks like the company is making some desirable additions to give the new Mi Band even more features.

Proven features of the Mi Band 7 include four new options for sports data analysis to measure exercise, athletic ability, fat / muscle mass gain and rest periods. It will also receive continuous monitoring of SpO2 and alert users when blood oxygen levels fall below 90%.

There is NFC on board, at least in China.

Retail bracelet box leakage recently confirmed additional features. Among them are more than 100 sports modes, water resistance 5 ATM, sleep tracking and a battery with a capacity of 180 mAh, compared to the 125 mAh battery in the Mi Band 6.

Previous sources have suggested that the Mi Band 7 may be the first in the series to have a built-in GPS. The line is usually different connected GPSwhich essentially uses your phone ‘s GPS for tracking. The built-in GPS chip will make the Mi Band 7 a good choice for those who do not want to carry their phones on the road.

It is noteworthy that the built-in GPS also requires a larger battery, as it usually consumes a lot of energy. A 180 mAh battery can certainly help with this. Leaked information suggests that the Mi Band 7 may also have a power-saving mode that is likely to disable certain sensors, alerts and other power-consuming features, possibly including GPS.

Elsewhere, Mi Band 7 is said to feature Smart Alarm, which will wake the user 30 minutes before the alarm rings if the tracker detects a light sleep.

The always-on display is also on the cards for the Mi Band 7. Again, this is something that will drain the battery fairly quickly. Therefore, it makes sense to have an energy saving mode.

It seems that Mi Band 7 will also add password protection to block the tracker so that others cannot access your fitness data.

You can also expect new dials and added fitness tracking modes.

Just a Mi Fit app has changed to Zepp Life. This is because Mi Band maker Huami owns the Zepp brand and uses it for its own Amazfit wearables. The best app will definitely be a welcome change after the launch of Mi Band 7. The rebranded app promises a better user experience. Although we have to use it to see how well it works.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi has also merged its two Xiaomi Health and Xiaomi Wear / Xiaomi Wear Lite programs into one program called Mi Fitness.

You should be able to use both programs depending on which one you prefer with Mi Band 7.

Xiaomi Mi Band 7: what we want to see

As rumors and leaks do not spread, we would also like to see Xiaomi make some changes and introduce some new features.

Make NFC universal

Mi Band 6 NFC is a global option

One of the biggest drawbacks of Mi Band models manufactured outside of China is the lack of them Near Field Communication (NFC). Last year, the company finally corrected this when it introduced an NFC-enabled version of the Mi Band 6 in Europe. The My Smart Band 6 NFC compatible with MasterCard payment terminals for contactless payments. We hope that Xiaomi will make this feature universal on all Mi Band 7 models available worldwide, while expanding contactless payment options and supported banks. Currently, the number of banks that allow payments with Mi Band 6 is very limited.

Improve heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking

In our Mi Band 6 review, we noted that heart rate sensor on the tracker struggles with high-intensity training, even though the resting heart rate readings were very accurate. Monitoring your heart rate every 30 minutes has also led to fuzzy data, and doing so every minute reduces battery life.

Mi Band 6 also failed to accurately record sleep data such as waking time and fast sleep. His method of assessing sleep was not very reliable in our experience. The function that monitors the quality of breathing during sleep was also not impressive, as neither the application nor the wearable device provide any real context for the collected data.

We hope Xiaomi will improve these issues on the Mi Band 7.

Larger battery

Xiaomi Mi Band 6 received a battery with a capacity of 125 mAh, which promises 14 days of “normal” use. However, in our experience, battery life has been severely affected by advanced features such as respiration rate, all-day heart rate monitoring, and more. If the Mi Band 7 really has features like the always-on display and built-in GPS, it will definitely need a bigger battery or better optimization. The good news is that Xiaomi may have already marked this item on our wish list. The alleged leakage of the retail box indicates that the Mi Band 7 will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 180 mAh. However, the previous one lists the tracker on several certification websites showed a 250 mAh element. We hope that Xiaomi will present the latter, but most likely the former.

Don’t mess with the design, but…

Finally, we don’t think Xiaomi should bother too much with the design of the Mi Band 7. The modern design in the form of a tablet with a thin ribbon is functional and works. A larger display will automatically mean a slight design change, which would be normal. However, the band’s straps are quite boring and come only in simple colors. This time, Xiaomi could do with a few more exciting, sporty straps to give the media a fresh look.

So far, that’s all we have on Mi Band 7. What would you like to see from Xiaomi’s new fitness tracker? Post your wish list in the comments section below.
