The Royal Moroccan Handball Federation announced the withdrawal and non-participation of the Tunisian national clubs in the 37th Arab Handball Championship for the champion clubs, during the period from September 17 to 27, in which the participation of the club of handball Wydad Smara.
The Royal Moroccan Handball Federation also announced its withdrawal from the African Championship of Champion Clubs, which will also take place in Tunisia from September 28 to October 10, in which Raja Agadir would have participated.
The withdrawal of the University of Handball from the two mentioned tournaments occurred immediately after relations between Morocco and Tunisia became tense, since the president of the latter received the leader of the “Polisario”, to participate in the Tokyo International Conference on Development in Africa (TICAD 8).
The Royal Moroccan University of Karate and Joint Methods had previously announced the cancellation of the Moroccan team’s participation in the North African Championships to be held in Tunisia from September 7 to 11.
The Meknassi Women’s Basketball Club also followed the same path as its predecessors, after it also decided to cancel its participation in the Arab Championship for Women’s Clubs, organized in the city of Nabeul, Tunisia, from September 20 to 28, 2022.
It should be noted that the Moroccan Foreign Ministry had summoned the Moroccan ambassador to Tunisia, Hassan Tarek, to protest the reception of the controversial Tunisian president Kais Saied, leader of the separatist Polisario Front, Ibrahim Ghali, last Friday.
