Siemens Gamesa announced today, Thursday, the closure of its factory in Tangier and the dismissal of 500 workers who work in said industrial unit.
In a statement on the matter, the company said that the closure of the factory is part of its plan to return to the level of profitability and ensure the long-term sustainability of the company.
The Siemens Gamesa factory was officially opened in October 2017. It is specialized in blades and wind turbines with an investment of 1.1 billion dirhams, it is considered among the most organized and modernized in the world and was providing 600 jobs, ready to deliver wind turbines . blades in Africa and the Middle East “100% made in Morocco”, taking into account that the group is one of the three largest companies in the field of wind energy in the world.
Siemens Gamesa is the leader in the African market with more than 15 years of presence and installation of fields with a total production capacity of more than 2.1 GW in various countries, including Morocco, with a market share of up to 72%. , in addition to other countries such as Algeria, Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia, Mauritania and Kenya and Mauritius.
