After two years of delay, the twenty-second edition of the Tangier National Film Festival kicks off

The activities of the 22nd National Film Festival, organized by the Moroccan Center of Cinema under royal patronage, began on Friday night in Tangier, until September 24.

The opening ceremony of this session, which comes after a two-year delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was marked by the presence, in particular, of the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mahdi Bensaïd, the Wali from the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the worker from the Tangier-Asilah prefecture, the president of the Council of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, and the director of the Center for Moroccan Acting Cinema, and many personalities from the art world and media

This ceremony was also marked by the organization of a special celebration in memory of the late Nour El-Din Al-Sayel, as well as the tribute to producer Souad Al-Maraqi and director Mohamed Abdel-Rahman Al-Tazi.

The program for this course includes three contests, the first dedicated to feature films, the second to fiction short films and the third to documentary feature films. Films produced since the last session of the festival, which took place from February 28 to March 7, 2020.

The course program also includes the “Cinema Market”, which will provide a space to discuss issues of film distribution and exploitation in the era of digitization and new forms of presentation and distribution, and professional meetings to discuss issues of interest to the National reality. cinema and perspectives for its development, in addition to presenting the cinematographic outcome of the years 2020 and 2021, and other parallel activities.

On the sidelines of the session, the fourth session of the Ivorian Film Week will be organized in Morocco, within the framework of strengthening relations between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire, and to activate the provisions of the film co-production and exchange agreement between the Center and the National Film Office of Côte d’Ivoire, which was signed in November 2011.

The National Film Festival is a national film event of an artistic, cultural and promotional nature, aimed at promoting the development of Moroccan cinema, fostering the work of professionals in the sector and providing a space for meeting, interaction and exchange.
