Proposed increases in the salaries of university professors between 1,700 and 4,000 dirhams. Akhannouch meets tomorrow with the unions

Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education Abdellatif El-Mirawi, will meet tomorrow Monday with the National Union for Higher Education and the Moroccan Union for Higher Education, at the Government headquarters to discuss the demands of the teachers to improve salaries, as part of their draft statute.

Between the two unions, it is circulating that the Minister of Higher Education proposed an increase in teachers’ salaries from Dh1,700 to Dh4,000 per month, but disputes with the Ministry of Finance did not allow the statute to exist. This is at a time when teachers were demanding raises of between 4,000 and 6,000 dirhams. Sources indicate that the finance ministry had reservations about these increases, especially in view of the difficult economic periphery, which led the government to resort to arbitration.

Salaries for university professors start at about Dh13,000 at the beginning of the journey and reach Dh20,000 during promotion to the level of higher education professor. With the proposed increases, a university professor will start his salary at about Dh15,000, while the salary of a higher education professor will reach about Dh24,000.
