The general director of the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Minerals, Amina Benkhadra, said that the Nigerian-Moroccan gas pipeline project is the materialization of a vision of the future that seeks to develop a large area of ​​the continent in an integrated framework.

Benkhadra highlighted in his speech, on Thursday in Geneva, within the framework of a round table on energy in Africa, within the activities of the Crans Montana Forum, that the project stems from an ambitious vision shared by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, for the development of a wide region that includes 16 countries, and allows the delivery of Clean Energy, competitive for the population with a dynamic development of interest to various sectors, among which agriculture stands out.

During the meeting, which was attended by European experts in the energy sector, who expressed their interest in knowing the different phases of the project, its implementation mechanisms and its financing and development dimensions, he considered that the issue is related to a project crucial for the integration of the continent that puts energy at the center of national development projects.

Speaking to MAP, the official stressed that Africa needs, more than any other continent, access to clean and sustainable energy, to keep up with its growth process, noting that 600 million people do not have access to electricity and other energies. . natural resources, highlighting that the continent is rich in natural and astronomical resources necessary to achieve the energy transition.

Benkhadra highlighted the broad positive interaction with the project, which materializes in the gradual participation of the countries involved, adding that the bilateral agreements are in the process of being prepared and work continues to crystallize a comprehensive governance system for the project and its mechanisms. management. , which is the subject of an intense joint effort by Morocco and Nigeria.
